Recovering Documents

Correspondence Manager creates a recovery document if the system closes unexpectedly, as in the case of a power failure. Working outside a return, the recovery document can be a letter, letter template, or paragraph. Working inside a return, the recovery document is a rendered letter.

If the system closes unexpectedly after a manual save and before the first automatic save, there is no recovery. After at least one automatic save has occurred, the recovery is either the last manual save or the last automatic save, whichever is more recent. For more information about activating the AutoRecover feature, see Setting AutoRecover Options.

Important: The automatic recovery does not replace the Save command. You must manually save your work when you are finished making changes.

When you open Correspondence Manager, the system determines if there is a recovery document. If one is found, the Recover Document window displays. You can do the following:

  • Click Recover to open the document so you can save your changes.
  • Click Close to bypass the recovered document and lose all changes.
